Cora N. Sternberg, MD, FACP earned her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. She completed her residency in internal medicine at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York and at Stanford University. She received her Oncology Fellowship training at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer in New York and was a Clinical Assistant Professor and on staff there until moving to Italy in 1988, where she obtained a second medical degree at la Sapienza University with highest distinction. Dr. Sternberg is board certified in Internal Medicine and in Oncology in the United States, Italy, and Austria.
Dr. Sternberg continued her research on an international basis in collaboration with cooperative groups such as the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC), where she is an elected Executive Board Member, and with investigators in many other countries including the United States.
Dr. Sternberg has served as scientific chairman of the Genitourinary Scientific Program for the Federation of European Cancer Societies (FECS) European Cancer Conference (ECCO) in 2006 and the scientific chairman for the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Prostate Cancer Multidisciplinary Symposium and scientific committee chairman for ASCO in 2007. She was nominated as the ASCO steering committee representative in 2008 for the Genitourinary Multidisciplinary Symposium and again as international scientific committee representative in 2009. She is on the Scientific Committee of the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) and Prostate Cancer Conferences and is the coordinator for Genitourinary Cancer Education for ESMO for 2006-2008. She is a member of the Clinical Trials Advisory Board for the United Kingdom and a member of the International Union Against Cancer (UICC) TNM Expert Advisory Panel.
Dr. Sternberg is an internationally respected researcher who has lectured at more than 800 international cancer symposia, including ECCO, ESMO, the EAU and ASCO. She has also been a visiting professor at numerous institutions and is a faculty member of the European School of Oncology and the European School of Urology.
She is the principal investigator for numerous international clinical studies, which can have the potential to change clinical practice, including trials for the EORTC. She has published in numerous peer-reviewed oncology journals and in textbooks. In addition to being published, she has served on editorial boards and is an associate editor of several prestigious journals including the Journal of Clinical Oncology, the British Journal of Urology International and Critical Reviews in Hematology and Oncology. In addition, she has recently co-edited 3 Genitourinary Oncology textbooks.
Dr. Sternberg is currently the Clinical Director of the Englander Institute of Precision medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine, in New York and is dedicated to supporting Italian Oncology and Oncologic patients.

The Samuel and Barbara Sternberg Cancer Research Foundation ETS is proud to have a scientific committee comprised of the leading oncologists in the world. When adequate funds are raised, this committee will be able to evaluate scientific projects and be able to award scholarships to young oncologists.
The scientific committee is composed of some of he most internationally well-known oncologists, many of whom have been or are President of the American Society of Medical Oncology (ASCO) or of the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) or chairmen of the EORTC. Others are brilliant Italian researchers working either in Italy or in the United States.

The Samuel and Barbara Sternberg Cancer Research Foundation is a not-for-profit foundation ETS. In agreeing to serve as Directors, board members have agreed to operate the Foundation for the public benefit and have an oversight duty of care. The Board elects the officers who are a president and a secretary. Three professional accountants serve on the board to oversee all expenditures. A professional accountant is responsible for overseeing the finances. The President is in charge of the Foundation on a day-to-day basis. The secretary may require an administrator who will maintain the books and records and may be hired by the Board of Directors. The charitable foundation maintains books and records according to generally accepted accounting practices and files annual tax returns.
The Board meets at least annually, but may meet more often if needed. The officers accept the responsibility of keeping the Foundation’s Board informed.
